Tree roses, also known as standard roses or rose standards, are created by grafting. They get a good, straight, long cane from a hardy rootstock and graft a well-performing rose variety on top.

That makes a beautiful silhouette for landscaping. It pulls the rose up out of the garden bed, great for vertical interest in a border, in a nice, rounded mound, like you'd get with a hanging basket. It makes your garden look professionally designed. These aren't as cold hardy, so we suggest growing them in pots in chilly climates--they look great with a filler around the base that has a corresponding color pop. You can keep these movable containers by a sitting area, around the patio or on either side of an entryway.
